Upon receipt of an ACATS transfer, we’ll hold the transferred ETFs (ineligible assets like single stocks will be liquidated even in a transitionary account) in a transitionary Betterment account from which you will be able to liquidate all or a portion of the assets to move into a Betterment portfolio. To get started:
- Fill out this transfer request form located in your Advisor Dashboard's Support page
- Scan the completed and signed transfer request form (we accept e-signatures from your clients)
- Send the completed and signed transfer request form and a copy of your client’s account statement from the current custodian to email@example.com
Our operations team will review the information and create the transitionary account, which supports holding assets outside of Betterment’s portfolio, for your client. This account will be titled “Transferred Securities” and will appear like any other Betterment goal within the platform. After the transfer request is successfully submitted, the funds should appear in your clients’ accounts in 4-5 business days. Betterment will not place any trades in the account until you direct us to do so except for, as in all accounts, assessing quarterly fees.
